Pastor Will Deuel is a lifelong local Southern Illinoisan. He graduated from Carrier Mills High School and holds a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and a Master’s degree in Rehabilitation Counseling from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale. He worked as a mental health counselor in various settings for ten years before pursuing a second Master’s degree, this time an M.Div. from Eden Theological Seminary in St. Louis, MO.
Will is happily married to Katy, his high school sweetheart and, in his opinion, the best Physician Assistant in the world. Katy views her practice as a ministry as well as a career, and believes strongly that health care is an expression of God’s love. Together Will and Katy have a daughter and two sons.
In addition to pastoral ministry Will is a singer, guitarist, ukulele enthusiast, songwriter, and music fan. He tries to dig into scripture the way Stevie Ray Vaughan dug into the notes on his fretboard, to craft the words of a sermon the way Bob Dylan caresses the lyrics of a song, to get the point concisely and succinctly the way the Beatles crafted perfect two-and-a-half minute songs, while retaining improvisational freedom like Miles Davis or John Lee Hooker.
